Since then, August 15 has been celebrated as India's Independence Day with great fervour and enthusiasm. Every year, India celebrates its Independence Day with flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades and cultural events. There is a tradition to fly kites. It is a national holiday. Today, as India celebrates its 74th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unfurled the Indian Tricolour at the ramparts of the Red Fort.
